What is Doorventure.art?
Hi, I’m Dennis.
I’ve spent a big part of my life telling stories.
For many years, I created a travel show called Uncovering Oklahoma, where I traveled across the state meeting interesting people and sharing the places they loved. Restaurants, artists, small towns, museums, festivals—every episode was a reminder that great stories are everywhere if someone takes the time to look for them.
What I learned from making that show is simple: there are far more great stories out there than most people ever get to see.
During that time, I also became involved with OKC Improv, where I worked as their videographer when they were first starting up. Every week, performers would step on stage with nothing planned and create something new together. Sometimes the room was packed. Sometimes, only a few people were there.
But those shows were often incredible.
I kept thinking about how strange that was. A group of talented people could create something hilarious and unforgettable… and only a handful of people would ever experience it.
Unless someone recorded it.
That idea stuck with me. So much art happens in small rooms, late-night shows, and one-time performances. If nobody captures those moments, they disappear.
Doorventure.art grew out of that realization.
This project is about opening doors to the kinds of creative work that deserve a wider audience—live shows, strange ideas, small productions, and artists who are making something meaningful, even if only a few people see them at first.
Yes, Doorventure.art will eventually have a streaming app where you can watch shows from anywhere. The goal is to create something independent—something that helps artists share their work without needing to rely on big platforms or The Algorithm.
But I don’t think of this as just another streaming service.
This is a community arts organization.
You won’t become a “subscriber.”
You’ll become a member.
Members help make these stories possible. Members help artists create and help audiences discover things they didn’t even know they were looking for.
Building something like this takes time. I still have a long way to go before the app is ready and the library of shows grows large enough to launch it. That’s why I’m starting by sharing the journey on Patreon. The people who join there will get to see the progress as it happens and help support the work that will eventually lead to the streaming platform.
And this is only the beginning.
My long-term dream is to move Doorventure.art into an old department store and turn the space into something special. A place where we can film live audience TV shows—sitcoms, comedy sketches, and strange experiments with storytelling.
But the building would be more than a studio.
It would be an art experience. A place people can wander through, discover unexpected installations, watch something being filmed, meet artists, and simply spend time together. A place that feels welcoming and alive—a true community “third place” between work and home.
While I know this is a lofty ambition, right now I'm working towards this goal by creating content, sharing stories, and putting on shows in the meantime. How about a radio play you experience from your car while out in a field in the middle of nowhere? Would you come to a coffee shop to experience a sci-fi time travel series with audience participation? How about local bookshops for a STEM career talk show? Or a downtown group tour that turns into a show with unexpected events?
This is only the beginning.
And I’m really glad you found me.
